Smile Again Now with Mini Dental Implants
A nice grin can give anyone the extra boost they need to feel more confident and one dental office is helping give many a smile worth a million words. We are helping our patients feel comfortable and confident with dental treatments .
We're excited to have you on and Doctor Smith I wanted to ask you how long have dental implants been in widespread use. Will dental implants have been in widespread use since the 1970s? The early 1970s?
Titanium actually fuses to the bone, and when that happened, it opened up the floodgates to implants for dentistry as well as other parts of the body also. So it took off in dentistry in the early 1970s. Yeah and doctor Smith.
I'm passionate because this mini dental implant option opens up access to care for patients who have been told that they don't have enough bone. They've been told that the cost of obtaining enough bone with bone grafting and larger implants have often been prohibitive. So the use of smaller one-piece, and many dental implants, we can help patients that have been wearing dentures for years and years and years and have lost a lot of bone because they've lost their teeth.
A long time ago, that is my passion to make these patients more comfortable and to do away with all of those glues and adhesives that they often get tired of applying.
Well, I'm sure your patients appreciate you, and can you describe for our viewers what many dental implants are and the benefits of many dental implant treatments? Yes, it is a smaller version of a conventional implant. Normally conventional implants will hold just one tooth, but when we place several mini dental implants to stabilize the denture, we will place four of the small ones and the way they are retained is with an o-ring that's under the housing and that denture snaps into place, and so the benefit of having them is you don't have to have a lot of bone, the cost and the type of surgery is a lot less invasive. And so that is what makes me passionate about it because patients are sometimes medically compromised.
They have reasons why they cannot receive extensive surgery and then also as that last video shows a patient that was missing those molars for years was given a quote that he really couldn't afford to replace just a couple of teeth.
So I am so happy to be able to do that for patients. Yeah, and how long have you offered many dental implants to your patients? Yeah, I've been doing many dental implants for about 1516 years now. I've placed well over 7000 of them.
I am a diplomat in the International Academy of Mini Dental Implants, which means that I've done so many surgeries that I've been able to earn that status. I'm the President of the International Mini Dental Implant Academy. Now we can't ignore that. And what would you say? What sets your office apart from dental implant treatment?
I often say that patients can go just about anywhere in Sacramento to receive conventional implantology and conventional implantology is alive and well and very good. But at my office offer this option of a smaller diameter implant that will see patients that cannot be seen in some of those offices.
So I'm set apart because I can do something with an implant that cannot be done with the conventional size implant and with patients who were told that they were never. They will never be candidates. Or small for implants at all, so that's what sets me apart.
